Carmen

Imagine you can change your name...
What would you choose? maybe the name of someone you admire or a name that sounded good and different? a foreign name? a mystical name? or maybe you would like a name you can make a statement to the world or perhaps just to yourself?
what would YOU want it to say about you?

Here it is my answer:

I am Carmen, I am! and I aim to be!!!

No denying that I would like to be a Frida, Isabel, Carla or Sandra.

But I think that I am Carmen.
It suits me real well!
My father chose my name.
And I remember my mother singing my name beautifully.
It is a parent's job to make children feel special, and I think they did their job wisely and very well ;-)

so yes! You bet! I love my name ;-)

Carmen is a latin name, and a Spanish name as well.
In latin it means: poem, song, incantation.
In Spanish, means: Garden

To me, the name MEANS and IS:

intense, active, energetic, independent, determined, courageous, creative, unique, hopeful, talented, intuitive, joyful, passionate!!!

My name is original. Beautiful. Exotic. Magical. Powerful!!!
And it is Angelical and mermaidshhh, too ;-)

I think I have a great name to leave my mark in the world!
I take pride when someone starts singing or compared my name to Carmen, the gypsy heroine for Bizet, one of the world's most popular operas, and a very romantic, passionate, and tragic one.

I feel contented when I learned of someone telling me of its interest and appreciation for my name. And how perfectly suits me because then, it means that I am special and loved by that person ;-)

your turn!
you DON'T need to tell me about your name (remember for the majority of you, I already know your names)
For readers and friends of my blog, Keeping your privacy is quiet allright with me.
but it will be nice to learn how do you feel about your name, what it means to you? or would you like to change it for a new one, why?
Would you like to share that with me?
you can always email me if you do not wish to leave me your thoughts here, yes??? yes!

love, light and Sea magic, to you forever,
mermaid me ;-)

As a child, I didn't like my name at all. To make it worse, there was a song with my name in it about a girl who was with the drummer of the band and I hated it when people would start singing it.

Now I'm fine with my name. It's a typical Dutch name, so it does give me some trouble when I'm abroad, but I wouldn't change it to any other name. I like the fact that it means honoured warrior, it makes me feel strong at times when I can use a little extra strenght. Plus I like the fact that the pronounciation is the same as the Spanish word luz, which means light.

I do NOT like my name! I don't think it fits me at all but when I try to think of a new name I come up empty! My name was given to me by my mom's brother....not sure why. But I think it sounds dull and lifeless....it has no rhythm to it, no flow, nothing lyrical or artsy about it. And the only song I've ever heard it used in is from The Rocky Horror Show...Dammit Janet I love you!!

Yes, I think your name suits you very well, only not tragic like the opera Carmen! You have more joy than she seemed to have.

My first name means "Annointed One" ~ set apart by God.
It also means, "Female Christian"~ or even "Female Christ", but we won't even touch that one!

My middle name, Elaine, means "Light".

My maiden name was a variation on a wild animal, a very noble animal, and every man I've been involved with heard it has always commented, "that fits you perfectly"!
Hahaha!

Perfect for me!

Hmmm...it was only lately that I began to appreciate my "real" name. I was thinking I'd rather be a Veronica or Franchesca or Janine or Roxanne..anything that sounded a bit glamorous.

My real name means " Swedish Rose."

It was when my hubby said I should "reincarnate as a beautiful flower because I am somebody to be so admired" ( he!he!he! soooo corny I know...in fact when he was first saying this I was about to go.."what the ------- do you mean..duh!?Glad I kept my silly mouth closed." )that I first began to truly appreciate my name.

I already changed my name, or rather I formally switched from my first name to my middle name. I tried to make the change already in elementary school but it didn't finally stick until I left for university. My father was a little sore about it as he was the one who gave me my first name but has since adjusted :)

My first name had connotations of expectations to me. It was a name belong to someone who's life was pre-determined. In fact, it's meaning was "pure" and I could never live up to that. I needed my own life and my own name.

Hi my mermaid friend!!
I am back :-)
While in Peru, my friend was in search for a new name. we had two shamans on our journey and they both came up with two differnt names, but one meant star (chaska) and the other was light.. My name, Doreen, I like because it's not so common. When someone calls my name, most likely it is me they are calling. My mother calls me Doe, and once a Native American said the Deer was my animal totem. I have read that Doreen means golden girl... Although Peru was a most wonderful trip, it's good to be home. Check the blog as I write my experiences and share photos.
Love and Light,
Doreen

I love my name now that I am an adult...would much rather have been a Laura or Kathy as a child.
You told me that my name means "indigo or purple" in Spanish. That delights me, as indigo is the color that always "calls" to me.
Gemma/Linda told me that my name means "dark beauty" in Persian, and "devine play" in Sanskrit.
So, yes, I l ove my mane.
I also lov ethe Carmen collage you have on this post! Carmen is the perfect name for you!

i agree that your names suits you very well.

as a kid, i didn't always like my name. i would gringe at the start of a new school year with a new teacher, i knew he/she would struggle with my name. i always knew when my name was going to be called because the teacher would pause and study the roll-call sheet.

as an adult, i grew to love my name, and i no longer gringe when someone doesn't know how to pronounce it. i even like the shortened version of my name!

I think when most of us were young we didn't like our name. I didn't like mine. I wanted to be Kate for some reason, but now I love my name! I realized that it is beautiful and unique. AND it has the coolest, if not a little shallow, meaning (besides all the mythic Cassandra story stuff). It means, one who inflames men with love! Hahaha!

That's really inspiring Carmen! Thanks for sharing that with us! I love your name! My name is blahhhh but the one thing that I like about my first name is that I was named after my mother. :) Although they didn't stick with my first name because while they tried to teach my brother to say my middle name. Angela stuck....because he kept saying lalala until he was old enough to say Angela. My first and middle name are alright. I can't say that they totally describe me though. Anyway, thanks for the inspiring post!I'm sorry that I have not stopped by my computer has been down. Ekkkk!

"Love and Sea Magic"...I love that. I hope you don't mind if I borrow that line from you. ;)

Anyway, my mother's name is Carmen Adela. Yes, she's a CARMEN, too! I love that name and I love my name, too. You've inspired me to post about it. You inspire me to do a lot of things!

Have a happy Friday, Merry Mermaid! Disfrutalo.

Suzanne (my official name) means lily of the valley. I like that those lilies are very different than other lilies and that works for me! Small and delicate, wild and close to the earth.

Your name suits you perfectly!

I love the name I was given at birth.Maybe one day I will share it with you.I was named by my nana whose name Thora I use as my blogging name. She was very musical and very different and therefore I wanted to honour her. She was special to me and I was inspired
by her creativity.I do not like the name Thora in itself but it works because I feel I am encouraged by her memory.

The name, Carmen, conjures up musical images ... not so much after the opera, but more, Choro music.

I like both my names, Kate and Catherine ... I'm always intrigued with the name people choose to call me.

No way would I change my names - they fit me...

Happy weekend

I've always loved my name. I am so a "Holly", I could never picture myself with any other name. To think, my mother almost named me "Plum" sheesh!!! The meaning of name is a simple bush, the Holly bush, it has bright green waxy leaves and beautiful little red berries. To me, my name means more than that. I see myself as an explorer, someone on a great adventure and a lover of life.

What a wonderful writer you are my dear Carmen. I love your posts!

My name, Kathryn means peace. My last name means simply, "inner." So you see my watch word, every time some one says my name is, "inner peace."

The spelling of my name is the same as Kathryn Hepburn. I love that my name evokes a sense of strength as it is a popular name for many characters.

Have a wonderful day.

Love the name Carmen, sounds powerful or musical like the operas. My name is Joyce but all my family calls me Joy,shorter and nicer. Never thought when asked to use Joy,so alot of people still call me Joyce which I hate. I wish I felt as much Joy as my name,I am down so often it sounds a funny nickname huh? Love your blog and that song by Nora.

carmen, i love your name! it sounds like a gypsy name. i'm so interested in gypsies. and fascinated by mermaids. i LOVE all your renditions of mermaids. my name is sharon but everyone calls me shari. i like the name shari and the way my mom spelled it as just a short version of sharon. i can't remember what it means... but i think it fits me. when i was younger, i wanted to be a cassandra or a carolee or a claire...
